Two participants of the workshop published a statement about the scientific workshop in the journal New Phytologist. Ian Alexander and Marc-André Selosse from the Scottish University of Aberdeen and the French Centre d'Ecologie Fonctionnelle et Evolutive in Montpellier, respectively, not only summarize the workshop’s main scientific talks and discussions, but also explain the significance of this research field. Moreover they outline topics and questions which need to be investigated in the future.
